Taking your first trip afloat is easier than you may think! Within the space of 1weekend you can complete an RYA Start Sailing Course at SVSC.   During this course you will learn how to keep safe afloat, the basic principles of sailing and by the end of the weekend, you'll be taking your first solo sail.  This course is aimed at those 16 and above - there is no upper age limit!    Already done Level 1?  Please contact us if you would like further development.

Learn to Sail at SVSC (RYA Adult Level 1 /2)

RYA Training at Sandwell Valley  

We welcome all children interested in learning how to sailing onto our Youth Courses from the age of 8 upwards.   Run simultaniously along side the adult learn to sail courses, our youth courses make use of our small, single handed boats. By the end of the 2 days, your child will be confident afloat and have the skill set to be able to take one of our small boats out in light to medium conditions. Already done Stage 2? Learn to Sail at SVSC (RYA Youth Stage 1 &2)

We offer Powerboat Level 1, Level 2 and Safety Boat courses at Sandwell Valley primiarly for club members wanting to drive our safety boats.

We are also able to offer this training to other non members looking to obtain this award for use elsewhere, ie as part of becoming a Dinghy Instructor etc.

Power Boat Training at SVSC

Although we are a Dinghy Sailing Club, we also have access to a range of beginner windsurfing kit through a local agreement with the Dudley Sea Cadets.

 

Currently the RYA do not allow us to offer windsurfing courses, but we hope to do so at some future time.

The RYA Registered Training Centre run by the Principal, Gordon Howard, offers a range of courses at Swan Pool;  

Dinghy Sailing,  and Power Boating .

RYA Seamanship Skills

This is course for people of RYA Level 3 standard, with regular sailing experience for at least a year, who wish to develop their skills and understanding to sail in more difficult conditions and situations.

This is the RYA syllabus.    

If you've started sailing, level 2 teaches the basic knowledge and skills to sail safely in light to medium winds on sheltered waters like Sandwell valley.  With level 2 you can take boats out unsupervised and take part in club sailing and racing activities.
